These are injuries that many times will plague someone for years, progressively getting worse. The adhesions are initially formed from direct trauma from the tissue being torn. One thing that can make these injuries so chronic is the tremendous amount of internal bleeding in the shoulder that takes place as a result of the trauma. The more bleeding there is the more sticky glue is released throughout the shoulder, and the more layers of adhesions are formed. Any tissue in the shoulder can develop adhesions from this type of injury.

Martial arts also creates a tremendous amount of repetition in the shoulder with most punching / striking drills. In this case, micro-trauma to the posterior rotator cuff is almost a given.
