Patient Success #2426: Curtis McGovert, Founder of The Muscle Factory, 1st Place winner of Light Heavyweight Mr. San Francisco & Mr. San Jose, 3rd Place Mr. California
Activity that lead to injury: Competitive Body Building
Official Diagnosis: Bursitis, Impingement and Myofascitis

I first noticed a sharp pain in the front of my left shoulder while doing incline barbell presses. At first I tried lessening the weight and doing higher repetitions. I also took supplements known to help the tendons and joints such as Glucosamine Sulfate, MSM and Chrondroitin Suflate. This helped for a while, but when I tried to go back to my usual poundage, the shoulders just got worse.

At this point I was only a few weeks away from my main competitions, and now both shoulders were hurting and getting worse. Because of the pain, I dropped down to almost the weight of my normal bench press. Being so close to my show, this began to worry me. Things finally got to the point where even raising my arm was too much pain to bear. I couldn't put a shirt on, much less pick up my arms to do a double bicep pose. That was when a friend suggested that I see an ART provider.

I was nervous going into it - I didn't know how painful it would be, or if it would just be a waste of time. However, Dr. Janzen reassured me by helping me understand my injury and coached me through the treatment process. After just one treatment I was significantly improved and I could put my shirt on again! After two more treatments I was lifting as much weight as I wanted to and was able to train to the max for my competitions. I would recommend Active Release treatment to anybody with shoulder pain.
